The Rabbitohs are facing an uphill battle to keep Aaron Gray, with the winger considering a switch to NRL champs Cronulla.

“The Sharks have tabled the 23-year-old deal which would see him join the club as Josh Dugan’s centre partner for next season,” read the report on www.foxsports.com.au.

Earlier, Triple M’s Brent Read from The Australian reported Souths flyer Alex Johnston may be on the way out too, but the club wants to keep him.

Meanwhile, Luke Lewis, 33, confirmed earlier this year he planned to play another season.

And skipper Paul Gallen said he had begun discussing plans with the Sharks to play beyond his 37th birthday next year, as he continued to average 175 metres per game this season.

"He could play for another few more years I reckon," teammate Chris Heighington said.

"His performance against the Bulldogs (in round 12) was outstanding - the best I've seen in a long time."
