There are reports that Trent Barrett will be forced to remain at Manly until next July as the Sea Eagles look to enforce the embattled coach's 12-month notice period.

Barrett handed in his resignation in July this year amid rumours that he was willing to walk away then and there.

But it seems that, despite seeing out the end of the season, Barrett may have to stay on as coach until halfway through the 2019 season.

Fox Sports' Cody Kaye first reported the news, calling it "one of the great rugby league Mexican standoffs" in a Tweet earlier today.
