The drama continues for the Sea Eagles with young halfback Cameron Cullen set to be released from his contract.

According to foxsports.com.au, the 24-year-old has been granted an immediately release and will return home to play in the Queensland Cup.

The Sea Eagles are facing harsh sanctions from the NRL, after alleged third-party breaches, which the game's governing body is looking to prevent the club from adding any more players to their 2018 roster.

Cullen was seen as one of the ideal replacements for Blake Green, after missing out on Mitchell Pearce.

The 24-year-old made only five appearances for the club, since joining from the Titans at the beginning of the 2017 season.
