South Sydney's dismal NRL season shows no signs of abating with Adam Reynolds again under an injury cloud for Friday night's crucial clash in Brisbane.

Reynolds was spotted with a strapped knee at Redfern Oval on Monday morning.

Though teammate Sam Burgess hosed down concerns that Reynolds was in doubt to face the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium, the halfback was reportedly absent from training that afternoon.

With only four wins from 12 games, the 13th-placed Rabbitohs are racing the clock to rescue their deteriorating campaign.

And while Reynolds's form and fitness have been questioned this season, his importance is evident in the fact the team have won just five of 17 games without him since his debut in 2012.

"I think he's alright, he trained all last week," Burgess said.

"They might just be testing something out, I'm not sure.

"It's Monday morning ... but I'm confident he'll play."

In a timely boost, skipper Greg Inglis is set to return to the club as early as Tuesday.

Having spent time in rehabilitation for mental health issues, Inglis will now begin the long road to recovery from the ruptured ACL that ended his season in round one.
