It's been a big week in the headlines for James Tedesco, Aaron Woods and Kieran Foran, with the three stars linked to new clubs - and on very lucrative offers - for 2018.

However, it's been reported by dailytelegraph.com.au that clubs are facing significant struggles in terms of the proposed salary cap, to the point that the NRL has written to each club to make it clear that the $8.84 million figure must be adhered to or contracts will not be registered.

The cap is approximately $1 million short of what clubs were expecting, with the Bulldogs and Roosters identified by the Daily Telegraph as possibly facing problems after landing Kieran Foran, Aaron Woods and James Tedesco between them.

The Dragons may also have some trouble squeezing in under the cap following reports today that Gareth Widdop has inked a new deal which was higher than the club first offered.

The Rugby League Players' Association is expected to slate a counter-offer to the NRL in the coming weeks as the cap figure continues to be contested.
