A clearly devastated Sandor Earl has revealed that his NRL comeback is on halt after he suffered a serious knee injury this week during his Melbourne Storm pre-season training.

Earl only signed a contract with the Storm a few weeks ago in an effort to make a comeback to the NRL after his lengthy suspension from the game due to drugs.

Melbourne Storm Football Director Frank Ponissi said, in a statement, Earl has the full support of the club at this devastating time.

"Everyone at the Club is devastated for Sandor. He is understandably shattered at the moment and we will support him in every way on and off the field to assist Sandor’s return back to playing.

“While he has only been with the Club a short time, he has earned the respect of the coaches and players in the way he has approached training and embraced the standards and values of our Club.

“We have no doubt he will approach his rehab with the same impressive attitude.”

Earl will undergo reconstructive knee surgery next week and is looking at being sidelined for 9-12 months.
