Wayne Bennett dropped a bombshell at Broncos training today while paying tribute to Johnathan Thurston.

Whilst expressing his admiration for the retiring superstar and his desire to have coached him, Wayne admitted that the Cowboys playing to avoid the wooden spoon in Thurston's last ever home game was, for him, the biggest surprise of season 2018.

But his revelation on how close JT came to being a Bronco might just trump it; listen below.

For Broncos fans, today's revelation probably rubs more salt into the 2015 Grand Final wounds, given it was Thurston's extra-time field goal that snatched an epic 17-16 victory to deliver North Queensland its first ever Premiership.
