During ScoMo's recent visit to Townsville, he made a tongue in cheek remark regarding Holmes' future.

"I make one humble request of the people of Townsville," Prime Minster Morrison said.

"In relation to all this, is you've got to let me keep Valentine Holmes at the Sharks.

"That's the one thing I ask, OK?

"I know he's a Townsville boy but he's having a great time down there with my boys at the Sharks.

"Let Val stay, and let's get on with the projects."

Holmes' contract with the Sharks ends at the end of next season, meaning he is free to negotiate with rival clubs.

However, the Cowboys appear to be favourites to sign the Queensland and Australian star, despite the Sharks tabling a five-year $4million deal.
