The Cronulla Sharks are trying to entice former player Daniel Mortimer back to the club ahead of the 2018 season.

Mortimer was released by the Sharks mid-way through the 2017 season to take up an offer with English Super League club Leigh Centurions.

However, the Centurions were relegated making Mortimer a free-agent.

According to foxsports.com.au, the utility is weighing up an offer from the Centurions to stay on and help the club get promoted back to the Super League or re-join the Sharks.

After a break out season in 2009 as a teenager which Mortimer led the Eels to a Grand Final appearance, his career has stagnated despite winning the 2013 NRL Premiership with the Roosters.
