It may seem as though the Rabbitohs' season was over before it really started.

Already on the back foot after Adam Reynolds was ruled out with appendicitis, the loss of Greg Inglis for the season could well be seen as the nail in the coffin.

However, the Rabbitohs are reportedly looking to the Storm for inspiration, with the absence of Billy Slater - and Melbourne's ability to make the grand final without him - showing the club that it is possible.

"I was only talking to one of the other boys about Munster the other day," Souths hooker Damien Cook said, reports smh.com.au.

"They lost Slater but they made the grand final and almost went on to win it. You can do it. The good thing to come out of it is everyone is going to have to lift that little bit extra to fill Greggy's space because he is a big presence on the field. Everyone is just going to have to step up that little bit more and play a part."

In a boost for the club, Adam Reynolds has been named in the 19-man squad, making an earlier return than first thought.

Souths take on Manly on Saturday at 5.30pm.
