Speaking on Triple M Saturday NRL, Peter Sterling has revealed that the NSW captaincy could go to a half.

While Boyd Cordner has been confident of his fitness for Origin III, there has been a bit of doubt about his ability to recover from a calf injury in time.

"I've seen a couple of contenders put forward during the week," Sterlo said.

"Obviously Aaron Woods is a club captain.

"I've always liked the idea for the opportunity - if it's there - to go with a half, who's going to play for the full 80 minutes.

"So Jimmy Maloney, Mitchell Pearce, they all come into contention.

"I haven't spoken to Laurie about it, and reports are that Boyd will play."

Pearce would be an interesting choice, especially since his selection as halfback has been considered to be quite contentious.
