Terry Campese was left with a bruising parting gift from the game of rugby league after Italy's World Cup loss to Fiji on Friday night.

The Italian five-eighth posted this picture to Instagram, even laughing at the prospect of starting a new job on Monday limping around.

Campese who already came into the game with a grade-one calf tear, managed 57-minutes in the Azzurri's final World Cup group match before being forced off due to multiple injuries.

The former Raiders captain finished his career where it all started 13-years ago.

"It was just a good way to say goodbye, playing in the World Cup for your heritage country, and seeing all your mates and family friends come out and support," Campese said.
