Triple M's Ryan Girdler has opened up about the problems at the Panthers, saying that the issue goes beyond the leadership group. Listen to the report below.

This comes after the club slipped from being the resounding favourite in the premiership race, to now practically out of contention for the top eight.

"I know there’s been lots of noise about Matt Moylan’s leadership," Girds said on Triple M Saturday NRL.

"I think Matt is a great leader on the field, he tries harder than any other bloke on the field.

"But I think it’s some of their older more senior guys that know what it takes to win a game at this level and have probably been in form slumps before like the Tamous, like the Wallaces, like the Merrins, these guys need to now take some ownership of the results.

"I’m not seeing the older guys on the field go over and pull the young guys into line.

"At certain times at the back end of your career when you’re out of form and you side isn’t doing the things you need to do, you’ve got to go over to the young blokes and say ‘Hey that’s not on, we’re not doing that tonight’ or ‘We’ve got to try a different thing’ and I’m not seeing any of that.

"They’re making errors and everyone goes and pats people on the back and goes 'Yeah, good on you, forget about it'.

"Well I reckon all that is rubbish."
