Josh Dugan is apparently seriously weighing up his options before inking a new deal with the Dragons, with the fullback in talks with overseas rugby.

Triple M and the Australian's Brent Read elaborated on the situation, saying that the underlying issue is that Dugan wants to be considered (and paid) as a fullback, not a centre.

"The interesting thing is that the Dragons put a deadline on him," Ready said. Listen to the full report below.

"They made him a really hefty offer, but they made him an offer as a centre, not a fullback. The deadline has been extended.

"There was talk that the deal was around 600, 000 to 700, 000, and I think he's thinking one million. So around one million to 1.1 million."

During a press conference in Wollongong, Dugan said that considering his background in rugby, he would comfortably consider a code switch.

"I'm not going to rule anything out," Dugan said.

"I have spoken to clubs overseas, but my first goal is to stay in the NRL.

"I actually grew up playing rugby before playing rugby league. I could've played for (ACT) Brumbies when I was younger but I chose to play Harrold (Matthews U/16s) for the Raiders.

"I've got a little bit of background. It wouldn't be that hard a switch for me, I don't think."
