Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson will use Mitchell Pearce as a 'super-sub' if the NSW Origin halfback decides to stay with the Bondi club.

According to the dailytelegraph.com.au, Robinson will pitch to Pearce the idea of playing in the number 14 jersey with Cronk to take the halfback duties.

The Daily Telegraph reports, Robinson is looking to reduce the physical impact on hooker Jake Friend by using Pearce off the interchange to fill in when he is needed, giving the Roosters a deadly attacking structure.

Pearce has long been touted as a potential number nine for Origin by Triple M Grill Team's Matty Johns.

However, whether Pearce is willing accept the way the Roosters will line up in 2018, is increasingly unlikely if reports are true he is unhappy with the way the club have handled the Cooper Cronk saga.
