This is a good trivia question.

David Middleton, who is the statistician from Channel Nine, has given us some crazy stats about how big a beast Origin is.

The legendary stats man reminded us that Origin has been played on every day of the week except one.

“We’ve played every day of the week except for a Saturday," Middleton told Triple M.

“We had a whole series in 2001 played on a Sunday night but we’ve never had Saturday football for State Of Origin."

When the State of Origin concept was introduced in 1982 it was played on a Tuesday.

In 1993 and the Game One of 1994 it was played on a Monday, while Fridays got a run in 1998.

And then, of course, there was the one-off experimental match in Los Angles, which was played on a Thursday (Aug 6, 1987)

The NRL confirmed we'll be going to a Sunday night next year for the second game in Melbourne, while there is a huge call for standalone State of Origin weekends.
