The Queensland Maroons have today announced Justin Hodges, Petero Civoniceva, Johnathan Thurston and Billy Slater will join the Maroons coaching staff for the 2019 series.

Hodges will step in as Kevin Walters' assistant coach, while Civoniceva will join as team manager.

Slater and Thurston will join as mentors throughout different stages of the 2019 series.

The 'fresh approach' does however mean Maroons legend Trevor Gillmeister will be let go from his role.

Long serving Tony Spencer will also step away from his role as trainer.

"Trevor Gillmeister is a Queensland legend and Tony has worked tirelessly with the team for nearly 20 years as a trainer," Walters said.

"They have been great servants, but I just felt that the time was right to get fresh faces in and around the team with the next generation of players coming through."
