Ex-NRL bad boy Todd Carney has found a new side, with Salford Red Devils in Manchester confident they can secure a UK visa for him.

Carney was a free agent after being released by Catalan Dragons from the last two years of his contract in October.

Yorkshire club Huddersfield were knocked back when they applied for a visa for Carney eight years ago, but Salford owner Marwan Koukash says the club has heard positive things.

“The visa situation is not in our hands, it’s up to the Home Office, but the fact that he came into the country when he was playing for Cataland and he hasn’t been in any trouble over the last two or three years puts in a good position,” Koukash told the AAP.

“We’ve taken advice and we’re fairly confident that we’ll be okay.

“Hopefully he’ll be here within a couple of weeks.”

Carney has previously played for Canberra, Sydney Roosters and Cronulla, with all three tenures ending in controversy.
