Todd Carney has finally received clearance to play in the English Super League after he received his UK visa.

The Red Devils announced the signing of the 30-year-old on a 12-month deal in January but the controversial former Cronulla, Roosters and Canberra star has been forced to wait in Sydney for the paperwork to go through.

Salford owner Marwan Koukash said on Twitter on Thursday that he had received a phone call from the player to say his application had come through.

Koukash says Carney will arrive in the UK within the next 48 hours.

Salford were confident he would get the go-ahead from immigration officials after spending the last two years in Super League with Catalans Dragons.

Carney, who was sacked by all three of his NRL clubs for various alleged offences, was released by the Dragons at the end of last season.

He could make his debut for Salford in their game at Leeds next Friday.
