Refs boss Tony Archer has released an explanation for the Akuila Uate try in Friday night's clash between Manly and the Knights. Listen to the audio below.

"It is clear that the touch judge requested that the decision should be referred," Archer said.

"Prior to the referee having the opportunity to refer the play, a senior review official intervened and said that it was a try.

"Based on this advice, the referee then awarded the try.

"The actions of the senior review official to intervene is contrary to current policy, and also resulted in the incorrect decision."

It was almost a comedy of errors, with the added fact that the touch judge was on debut.

"Did he record that in the bathroom?" Triple M's Ryan Girdler said.

"They came up with an absolute however," Triple M and Fox Sports' James Hooper said.

"Jared Maxwell is sitting in the Bunker, and he tips to Klein that it's a try so don't send it up.

"The touchie is on debut and it's a breach of protocol.

"As a result, Jared Maxwell has been hooked from the Bunker for the rest of the weekend."
