Sea Eagles coach Trent Barrett has hinted young recruit Lachlan Croker will partner Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves next season.

"Lachlan Croker spent most of the off-season there, he's looking really good actually," Barrett told the club's website.

"He's a confident young bloke and I think he's ready to certainly step up into that role.

"Jackson Hastings is also going really well, so we're pretty comfortable there.

After releasing Blake Green, missing out on the signature of Mitchell Pearce and with the lingering salary cap drama, Barrett is happy the direction his halves options are heading ahead of the Christmas break.

"(Daly) Cherry has led from the front again, so will be ok," Barrett added.

"I'm really happy with the way those three are going at the moment."
