The Mitch Moses contract saga has been rife with reports that Moses wishes to defect to the Eels as soon as possible.

Moses' manager is reported to have again requested for an immediate release on Monday.

And now, new circumstances have come to light which may see the five-eighth in the blue and gold in the next 24 hours - and within the cut-off time for 'team list Tuesday'.

According to a smh.com.au report, the Tigers are holding off releasing Moses until they have a suitable replacement in their ranks.

And the club has set their sights on the Panthers' Te Maire Martin to fill the Moses-sized hole in their halves.

The Tigers have been busy since the still-unconfirmed loss of Aaron Woods (Bulldogs) and James Tedesco (Roosters), with Ben Matulino agreeing to a $700, 000 per season deal.

For the Panthers, the loss of Martin wouldn't be crippling, with Bryce Cartwright able to slip in at five-eighth and a possibility of making the switch to a long-term halves partnership with Nathan Cleary.

The odd fact to come out of this case of musical chairs is that Martin was originally a Tigers junior, and was released to the Panthers because Brooks and Moses were seen as the long-term options.

Moses was also a Parramatta junior, who was released to the Tigers after being told he was too small to make it in rugby league.
