"We Thought He Was Going To Be An NRL Player But We Just Didn't Know What Position"

Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy joined The Grill Team this morning and spoke of the incredible journey of Cooper Cronk, who will play his final game for the Melbourne Storm in the 2017 NRL Grand Final. 

Bellamy mentioned he was unsure what position Cronk would play when he first came to the club in 2004 with the former Dally M Medal winner initially used a utility off the bench. 

However, Bellamy noted it wasn't until the influence and mentorship under Triple M's very own Matthew Johns that Cronk stood out as a halfback. 

"When we decided that we were going to play him at halfback, we sent him up to you (Johns) at the start of each week for about six-eight weeks to educate him," Bellamy said. 

"It has been a great story ... when that opportunity came up and we decided to give it to him, he grabbed it with both hands and he's had a wonderful career."
