Wests Tigers have added Mahe Fonua and Corey Thompson to their roster as part of their 2018 rebuild.

Both will return to the NRL following two years in the Super League after being thrown career lifelines by coach Ivan Cleary.

Fonua played 50 games for Melbourne over four seasons while Thompson racked up 35 appearances for Canterbury during 2014-15.

They will both join the Tigers on two-year deals and will add depth to Cleary's squad.

"Both Mahe and Corey have had strong careers in the English Super League and we look forward to them bringing that experience back to Wests Tigers," Cleary said.

"We're confident that their overseas experience coupled with their previous successful stints in the NRL will be a positive addition to our playing squad."

After losing James Tedesco and Aaron Woods for the 2018 season and Mitchell Moses to a mid-year switch to Parramatta, Cleary is attempting to rebuild his roster.

He has already signed Josh Reynolds, Ben Matulino, Russell Packer, Chris McQueen for 2018 while Tui Lolohea was granted an immediate release from his Warriors contract to join them mid-season.
