Wests Tigers coach Jason Taylor has been sacked by the NRL club, effective immediately, with assistant Andrew Webster to serve as interim coach.

WHY WAS HE SACKED?

The club just couldn't cop continued poor results.

Despite missing the finals by just one competition point last year, back-to-back floggings at the hands of Canberra and Penrith sealed his fate at a board meeting on Monday.

WHO'S NEXT IN LINE TO TAKE OVER?

Assistant coach Andrew Webster will take over in the interim.

Former Warriors and Penrith coach Ivan Cleary and North Queensland assistant Todd Payten are the favourites to take over fulltime.

Cleary previously took the Warriors to the 2011 grand final before joining the Panthers. Aaron Woods, Mitchell Moses, James Tedesco and Luke Brooks are understood to be big fans of Payten after working with him in the Tigers under-20s.

WHAT'S TAYLOR'S COACHING RECORD LIKE?

Taylor has a 43 per cent winning rate as a first grade coach. He has 78 losses, 61 wins and one draw from 140 games.

That takes in stints at Parramatta (2006, 10 wins, six losses), South Sydney (2007-09, 31 wins, one draw, 41 losses) and Wests Tigers (2015-17, 20 wins, 31 losses).

IS THIS AN END TO TAYLOR'S COLOURFUL CAREER?

Perhaps. He was previously sacked by the Rabbitohs after a Mad Monday altercation with David Fa'alogo.

He also survived a very public showdown with Robbie Farah which ultimately led to the NSW hooker's exit to South Sydney.
