Usain Bolt has had one of his nine Olympic gold medals rescinded after his relay teammate Nesta Carter was found to have taken a performance enhancing drug.
The IOC says Carter tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a banned stimulant, after reanalysing samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Carter ran with Bolt in the winning 4x100 metre relay team.
The IOC said that the Jamaican team was “disqualified” and “the corresponding medals, medalist pins and diplomas are withdrawn and shall be returned”.
The revoked medal means that Bolt can no longer claim the triple-treble — the three golds he won in 100, 200 and relay at three consecutive Olympics.
Trinidad and Tobago is set to be awarded the 2008 gold, with Japan upgraded to silver and Brazil bronze.
