Spring Carnival Expanded With $7.5 'The Golden Eagle' Race From 2019

Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club have announced a new, unique race - The Golden Eagle - to rival and complement some of the country's biggest horse races.

The $7.5million race will be run over 1500m at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 2 November 2019, and is only open to 4-year-olds.

The Golden Eagle will be run at set weight conditions, and 10% of the prize money will be donated to charity as nominated by each of the runners, meaning that good causes will receive $750,000.

The race is the first feature race in the country exclusively for four-year-old horses and extends and expands the Spring Racing Carnival in New South Wales. 

It also makes for a three leg "Golden Slam" for horses should they win The Golden Slipper aged two, The Golden Rose aged three, and then The Golden Eagle. 

Racing NSW Chief Executive Peter V'landys AM describes the race as an important major event for Western Sydney, "In The Golden Eagle, we have provided a race that is also a celebration of the west of Sydney.

"Now having the third richest race on turf in the world behind The Everest and France's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Sydney's west has the perfect day to celebrate."
