Marc Leishman endsĀ  day two of the 2018 Masters with the best chance of any of the Aussies, bolting into outright second place.

Leishman cracked five under par on day two, including a magnificent eagle on the par five 15th hole, to sit seven under par, two shots behind leader Patrick Reed.

He briefly took the lead during the day after nailing three consecutive birdies.

His eagle included a massive shot to the green that hooked around a tree, travelled 200 metres and landed two metres short of the pin.

Fellow Aussie Cameron Smith is next best placed, tied for 14th and sitting one under halfway through the competition.

Stars Jason Day and Adam Scott sit a little further behind, tied for 28th and 40th respectively, both making the cut.

Overnight leader Jordan Spieth had a round to forget, with his two over par for the day seeing him fall back to a tie for fourth place.
