UFC President Dana White has all but confirmed Conor McGregor will be stripped of his UFC Lightweight title.

The UFC announced the top two contenders in the division (Interim Champion) Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will face off against each other at UFC 223 in Brooklyn, New York on April 8 (AEDT) for the Championship.

When quizzed on where this leaves McGregor in the title picture.

"I have no update (on Mcgregor's return) but the winner of this fight will be the undisputed champion," White said at the UFC 223 press conference.

However, the path for McGregor's return is now as clear as day, if he returns the Irishman will face off against the winner of Ferguson and Nurmagomedov.

White has previously said, McGregor has slated a September return to the UFC Octagon.
