A false alarm briefly delayed today's Australian Open quarterfinal between Tennys Sandgren and Hyeon Chung.

The match was just about to start with Sandgren to serve when the fire alarm blared throughout the arena.

"First set, Tennys Sandgren to serve," chair umpire James Keothavong announced as the siren went off.

It delayed the game and left fans in attendance unsure as to what was going on, or whether the message was real.

Channel 7 caller Jim Courier was a little perplexed.

"Well, that's one way to get the match started," he said.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we're just finding out from the internal office what that message meant," Keothavong told the crowd, which saw some laughter.

Everyone in attendance later found out it was a false alarm.

"Ladies and gentlemen, thanks for your patience. False alarm," he said.

The delay pushed the match back about four minutes.
