Ahead of the 2018 Melbourne Darts Masters coming to Hisense Arena August 10-12, here are the 5 players that you should be across before heading along:

Michael van Gerwen

Nickname: Mighty Mike
Age: 29
Nationality: Netherlands
Current ranking: #1

Michael van Gerwen started playing darts at the age of 13, and had thrown a nine-dart finish by the age of 17 — the youngest player to ever do so.

Since then he’s gone from strength to strength and now sits astride the darts world as number one, completing three consecutive Grand Slams between 2015-17.

He’s already the second most successful darts player in history behind Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, with plenty left ahead of him at the age of 29.

Simon Whitlock

Nickname: The Wizard
Age: 49
Nationality: Australian
Current ranking: #7

One of the best players to not win the World Championship, Simon ‘The Wizard’ Whitlock took up darts at the age of just 15.

He made the move from Australia to England to compete professionally in 2010, and has since gone on to be runner up in the World Championship, World Grand Prix, Premier League and Championship League.

He did win the European Championship in 2012, beating Wes Newton to claim his maiden major title.

Corey Cadby

Nickname: The King
Age: 23
Nationality: Australian
Current ranking: #59

One of the youngest players on the tour, Corey Cadby has made a splash since his move into the darts scene from Tassie.

He qualified for the PDC World Championship in 2017 after winning seven events in his debut season, getting knocked out by Englishman Joe Cullen.

With runner-up results in the UK Open and Auckland Darts Master in the last year, the future looks bright for Corey Cadby.

Kyle Anderson

Nickname: The Original
Nationality: Australia
Age: 30
Current Ranking: #26

Kyle Anderson is Australia’s second-highest ranked darts player behind Simon Whitlock and is set for a big tournament at the Melbourne Masters.

Hailing from Perth, Anderson has hit two televised nine-dart finishes in his career.

His first ever televised championship win came in 2017 when he took out the Auckland Darts Masters.

Peter Wright

Nickname: Snakebite
Nationality: Scotland
Age: 48
Current Ranking: #2

Peter Wright is a Scottish darts phenom who is most-recognisable for his mohawk - which changes colour every tournament.

He is currently second in the world, the highest ranking of his career, and in 2017 set the second-highest televised average of all-time at 119.50.
