Wallabies fullback Israel Folau will miss Friday night’s clash with the Melbourne Rebels after he failed to have his one-match suspension overturned by the World Rugby Appeal Committee.

Folau was initially banned from one match by the World Rugby judiciary panel on Wednesday night for a mid-air challenge with Ireland captain Peter O'Mahony during last Saturday’s third Test loss.

The Appeal Committee could not conclude that the decision of the Judicial Panel was wrong, and dismissed the marathon appeal on Thursday night.

With the sanction remaining in place, Folau will be sidelined for the NSW Waratahs Friday night clash with the Melbourne Rebels at AAMI Park.
