Nick Kyrgios has plenty of critics but the controversial tennis star has found himself a surprising high-profile supporter in the form of Liam Gallagher.

The former Oasis frontman sent out a Tweet of support to Kyrgios, who won his fourth ATP title at the Brisbane International on Sunday night, advising the 22-year-old to ignore "the beige boys".

"Nick Kyrgios don't listen to the beige boys do your thang do your thang well done as you were LG x," Gallagher wrote on Monday morning.

And it looks like Gallagher's defence of the much-maligned tennis star stems from their "rebel" status.

"They call you a rebel cos the squares can't handle you so there for you get demonised then they wonder why you get out of your box," he said in reply to a fan.

To another he declared: "This is all we know let's stick together and show them all."

Gallagher, who is currently in Australia on his solo tour, is a long-time tennis fan and obviously found time to take in Kyrgios' breaththrough win against Ryan Harrison.

Kyrgios has now moved up four spots to world No. 17 with both Sportsbet and TAB reporting a rush of betting for the athlete to go all the way at the upcoming Australian Open.
