It was a rough opening two days for Australian’s competing at Wimbledon, next to the high-profile exits of Nick Kyrgios and Bernard Tomic, six other Aussie’s have since been bounced from the singles’ tournament.

Despite it being the worst opening round at Wimbledon for Australian’s since World War II, one Aussie is flying the flag as the sole member to reach the second – Hawthorn forward Ty Vickery’s wife Arina Rodionova.

The Russian-born Rodionova stunned 16th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova - a player ranked 149 places above her 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 9-7 to be Australia’s sole first-round survivor from nine starters at tennis’s greatest event.

Rodionova, who has never reached the second round of a Grand Slam, defended seven match points against Pavlyuchenkova to eventually send the 2017 Wimbledon quarter finalist packing.

She’ll next face Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas at 8:30pm EST tomorrow night for a chance to reach the third round.
