Reactions to the announcement that Ronda Rousey was to turn her hand to wrestling may have been mixed but the reviews of her WrestleMania debut were not.

The former mixed martial arts fighter proved she can perform with the best of them on Sunday night, less than four months after signing with the WWE.

Teaming up with Kurt Angle, Rousey was pitted against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon in a mixed tag team match that the crowd and critics alike went crazy for.

"This match was excellent and Rousey at no point looked out of her element," pro wrestling insider Dave Meltzer said. "She was crisp in just about everything.

"The crowd was as hot for this as any 'Mania match in a few years, maybe since Daniel Bryan's 'Mania a few years ago.

"They went more than [20 minutes] with the crowd on fire most of the way... This was one of the better pro wrestling debuts I've ever seen."

SB Nation's James Dator said: "WWE needed to catch lightning in a bottle to make this all work and turn Rousey from household name to WWE superstar. They did it.

"We've seen this formula fail before, but not on Sunday night. A superstar was born."

Rousey's fellow wrestlers also heaped praise on the star.
