English soccer player Joey Barton has been charged with the misconduct by the Football Association, with claims being made that he has placed 1,260 bets on matches in the last decade.

The FA says Barton bet repeatedly on soccer matches or competitions between 26 March 2006 and 13 May 2013, according to the BBC.

The 34-year-old recently had his contract terminated at Scottish club Rangers, having fallen out with manager Mark Warburton after a training ground row.

Around the same time, he was given a one-match ban by the Scottish Football Association for breaking their rules around gambling.

Barton has a move lined up to Premier League club Burnley which could be thrown in to jeopardy by the charges.

The FA introduced rules in 2014 which ban players and staff at clubs from betting on any soccer match or competition.
