Four players from English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion have apologised after nicking a taxi from outside a fast-food joint in Barcelona.

Gareth Barry, Jonny Evans, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill were interviewed but not arrested by the police after the cab was stolen on Thursday.

The four players released a statement outing themselves as the quartet involved.

"We felt it important we identify ourselves out of respect for team-mates who otherwise could be implicated by association," they said in a statement.

They apologised for "the events which have been the subject of widespread and negative publicity".

The four players had wanted to go out in Barcelona, but after finding everything closed they got a taxi to a fast-food restaurant, according to the BBC.

When they left at around 5:30am they took cab back to the hotel without its driver.

The cab driver had his car back by around 8am.

West Brom — who are bottom of the Premier League having won only one of their last 25 league games — play Southampton in the FA Cup at midnight AEDT tonight.
