On The Verge Of WC Qualification

The Socceroos are on the verge of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia after a huge overnight result went their way.

Currently sitting third in Group B behind tomorrow night's opponents Japan and Saudi Arabia, the Socceroos chances of qualification were given a huge boost overnight with the Saudi's losing 2-1 to the UAE.

The result leaves the 'Roos equal on points and goal difference with Saudi Arabia, but with an extra game in hand.

So what does this mean?

The Socceroos face group-leading Japan in Saitama tomorrow night, with a victory over the Blue Samurai all but confirming their place in a fourth consecutive World Cup.

A draw would mean the Socceroos would need to take care of business against Thailand at AAMI Park next week, with even a loss against Japan now not the death knell it was before the Saudi's overnight loss.

Also working in the Socceroos favour is Saudi Arabia having to face Japan in their final group stage game.

Worst case scenario for the 'Roos; they finish third and face a playoff against the third place Group A team (currently Uzbekistan), with the winner of that facing the fourth placed CONCACAF team.

You can catch the action of the Japan-Socceroos match-up form 8:30pm tomorrow night on NineGO and Fox Sports.
