There are reports the Italian Football Federation were extremely confident of World Cup qualification, they had already book flights and accommodation for Russia next year.

Danish outlet TV2, first revealed the incredible story, as Denmark’s Football Association may pay their Italian counterparts to take over their bookings for next year’s World Cup.

Claus Bretton-Meyer, the CEO of the Danish Football Association, admitted that his country are looking to purchase the flights and accommodation that they need from the Italians.

"The big countries have settled in the bigger venues, and so we need to see what we can get," Bretton-Meyer said.

"Now there is a big difference between the preferences of the Danes and Italians. But it is clear that we can end up in a situation where we must get what we can get."

The Azzurri sensationally failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years after losing their play-off tie to Sweden 1-0.
