Liverpool's newest poster boy Mo Salah has been honoured with a statue in his native Egypt that is, to put it frankly, the stuff of nightmares.

The questionable effigy has already drawn comparisons to a similar likeness of fellow soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, which was unveiled at an airport in Portugal last year.

Unfortunately, the general consensus seems to be that Salah's is worse - which is no mean feat, really.

According to Egypt Independent, the statue was presented to the World Youth Forum in Sharm al-Sheikh, Egypt, by a local sculptor named Mai Abdel Alleh.

The artist was apparently so impressed by Salah's inspiring career trajectory that she was moved to immortalise his iconic stance of standing with his arms extended, looking to the sky.

And immortalise it she has. Behold.

Almost as entertaining as the statue, though, are the Tweets.
