An extra 16 countries will be at Soccer’s 2026 World Cup, after FIFA voted to expand the tournament which will likely be in North America – but not everyone is happy.
FIFA Boss Gianni Infantino’s plan – 16 three-team groups with the top two going into a round of 32 (the current number of teams in the tournament) – was given the nod.
The response online has been mixed with FIFA copping plenty of criticism...
They’re aiming to make the comp more inclusive outside of Europe and South America.
The move is set to give FIFA an extra $1.4 Billion with 80 matches instead of 64 – that’ll come from extra broadcast rights, sponsorship and ticket sales.
Some claiming it's a cash grab...
