Toronto FC player Sebastian Giovinco had the perfect response to a hostile Atlanta United crowd throwing a beer at his teammate Jozy Altidore yesterday — he drank it.

Altidore had bullied his way past the Atlanta defence to score an equaliser in the second half, and he celebrated by antagonising the opposition fans with his hand cupped to his ear.

They responded by throwing a cup of beer at him that he feigned to head away.

Giovinco was the first player on the scene to celebrate with Altidore, and he did so by picking up the cup and swigging the remaining beer.

Giovinco went on to score a goal, with the game finishing at 2-2.

The result gave Toronto the highest points tally in Major League Soccer history, with their 69 eclipsing LA Galaxy’s 1998 total of 68.
