Socceroos first choice goalkeeper Mat Ryan has made a big money move to English Premier League new boys Brighton and Hove Albion.

The south coast club has broken their club transfer record on Ryan, prying him away from Valencia in Spain.

The Seagulls have not disclosed the fee they paid for the 25-year-old stopper, however their previous record signing is the £4.46m (AU$7.49m) they paid for Irish centre back Shane Duffy from Blackburn.

Ryan made his debut for Central Coast Mariners in the A-League in 2010, before embarking on a career that’s taken him to Belgium and Spain before the English move.

The Aussie custodian will make his way to Brighton after competing at the Confederations Cup with the Socceroos in Russia.

Australia’s first match in the tournament is against world champions Germany at 1am on Tuesday morning.
