The Socceroos squad has been named for the World Cup in Russia.

Manager Bert van Marwijk trimmed the squad down the final 23 overnight.

Croatia based right back Fran Karacic, Maccabi Haifa’s Nikita Rukavytsya, Sydney FC’s Josh Brillante and Melbourne Victory’s James Troisi were the unlucky four to be released.

Hibernian striker Jamie Maclaren remarkably stays in the squad, despite not being part of the initial 26 and only being added as potential injury cover for Tomi Juric, who is also in the team.

Melbourne City wunderkind Daniel Arzani has also been included, completing a meteoric rise that started with him unable to crack the City team at the start of the 2017/18 A-League season.

The squad news comes after the Aussies knocked off Czechia 4-0 in Austria on Friday night, with Mathew Leckie scoring a brace and Andrew Nabbout scoring, while the fourth was an own goal.

The Aussies play Hungary next Sunday morning at 1:30am in their last hit out before the tournament.

The Socceroos first world cup game is against France in Kazan on June 16th.
