Cahill's astonishing international career has seen him appear at four consecutive World Cup's, scoring Australia's first (and second) ever goal at the tournament against Japan in 2006.

Cahill scored at three consecutive World Cup's, with a goal against Serbia in South Africa in 2010, and goals against Chile and the Netherlands in Brazil in 2014.

His 50 international goals is a whopping 21 more than the next best Socceroo, Damian Mori (29 goals).

Cahill's decision rules him out of the Socceroos' Asian Cup campaign which kicks off in the UAE in January.

The dynamic forward has yet to make a decision on his playing future at club level.

Congratulations Timmy on a brilliant Socceroos career.
