Craig Lowndes Goes Back To The Eighties

Lowndesy Lifts The Sheet...

The sheets are off, and as teased here yesterday, Craig Lowndes has come through with the goods.

The Supercars legend promised something eighties and slightly AC/DC for his racing car, and boy has he (and the team) delivered.

This is the livery the #888 Commodore will be decked out in for next weekend's Sandown 500.

It's fair to say you can't wipe the grin off Lowndesy's face.

Actually, have we ever seen Lowndesy not smiling?

“The car looks really good again this year, it’s great to be able to get involved with the retro theme and pay tribute to such an historic era of our sport,” he said.

The red and white scheme is inspired by Colin Bond's colours of the late eighties when half the touring car field (it seemed) ran around in Ford Sierras.

“I think the white and black aspects of it set it apart from our Sandown car last year and I really like the way the recognisable features from Bondy’s cars have been recreated in this livery with some unique twists," said Lowndes.

It'll be his 16th Sandown 500 start in a race he's won five times in the past with co-driver Steven Richards back on board to share the wheel for this year's enduros.

The car's being put through its paces today at Queensland Raceway in one final test before practice next Friday.

As for the AC/DC inspiration teased yesterday? Well, we'll let you be the judge of that, but we think it rocks.
