Who Will Answer The S.O.S.?

It once would've seemed unthinkable for a team as esteemed as the former Holden factory team, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Mobil 1 HSV Racing is considering all options as it tries to get to the bottom of its sluggish season so far.

One option that remains very much on the workshop bench is a customer deal with a rival team.

The team is weighing up buying key parts including suspensions from another squad on the grid as it tries to revive its floundering fortunes.

Team owner Ryan Walkinshaw told Fox Sports the decision has been made lightly.

“Previously that was something that was never even discussed," he said.

“But it’s something in the last week or so that the team, myself and our leadership group have decided we’re going to look at various options for.”

Currently the team race with their own suspension design but could reach out to Triple Eight Racing or even Ford-powered Prodrive for a technical alliance.

Suspensions aren't as tightly as other areas of the car, giving the team some leeway whatever they decide.

But could Mobil 1 HSV Racing really do a deal with the 'dark side' (Ford)?

“It could definitely work. You’d be surprised how close the cars are between brands,” said Walkinshaw.

“There’d be a lot of work initially to do the changeover, mainly because of the way the two teams do their roll-bars."

“But in terms of set-up, there’s not much from car to car at any given track."

One place Walkinshaw won't be getting his front-end suspensions from is Penske, with the series-leading Shell V-Power squad declaring they're not for sale.
