Brabham To Race Perth Round

One of the most famous (if not the most famous) names in motorsport will race in the Supercars this week.

Matt Brabham, grandson of 3-time world Formula 1 champion Sir Jack, has received a last minute call up from Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport at the Perth SuperSprint.

It's after regular driver Taz Douglas was forced out of because of a long-term family wedding commitment.

Brabham had his racing licence approved by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports only yesterday and will race the #3 Commodore.

Veteran and former Bathurst winner Paul Morris will spend the weekend in Brabham's pit garage, helping him get to grips with the Supercar.

"Obviously this has all come together at the last minute and has been a bit of a surprise, but we will give it the best shot we can," said Brabham.

"I am under no illusions about the expectations this weekend, but if I can get a bit of exposure for LDM and get a few laps under my belt in a Supercar then it works for all the stakeholders."

Matt's dad Geoff Brabham was also a handy steerer, starting the Indy 500 ten times and winning the Le Mans 24-hour race.

But is the 23 year old worried about how he'll be received by the other drivers?

"I will be out there with plenty of guys I used to race karts against so it should be cool."

Team boss Lucas Dumbrell hopes his small operation is in for a good weekend.

"To have a member of the Brabham family, which really is motorsport royalty in this country and abroad, is pretty cool," he said.

"At almost any other round he would not even be in the country, so it is a bit of a win-win and will hopefully bring the team and Matt plenty of attention."
