The Supercar series has been undergoing some big changes in recent years with new manufacturers coming in, others leaving and the word "V8" dropped from the title.

But none might be as big as this one - the first full-time female driver.

Simona De Silvestro is getting ready to buckle into the #78 Nissan Altima at the Clipsal 500.

The 28 year old from Switzerland is no slouch, arriving on the grid with a CV that includes a podium in IndyCar, test drives with the Sauber Formula One team and Formula E.

“Everyone has been really welcoming to me since I arrived, so I can’t wait to get racing," she said.

"We have started our testing program, and I’m feeling really comfortable in the car and with the team.”

Having raced in the last two Bathurst 1000s, De Silvestro is itching to get going and mix it with the boys come Adelaide.
