Bright Idea?

The verdict from last night's Supercars' test under lights?

It's a winner.

Fabian Coulthard and Simona De Silvestro pulled on their helmets and strapped in for a fang around Sydney Motorsport Park... in the dark.

Well not quite.

There were some lights set up around a number of turns as Supercars work out the best way to illuminate a night race.

The Safety Car was also on track for the test.

So what did the drivers think?

“The areas where it was lit up were awesome," Coulthard told Supercars.com.

“It’s a new spectacle and it’s a great circuit to do it. It’s good viewing for the fans and I think the cars look fantastic under lights. I think it (a night race) will be a great spectacle.”

De Silvestro had little trouble adjusting to the conditions.

"I think it’d be fun to race like this, definitely a bit different."

“You see the dust way more when you’re following a car so it’s a bit of a different aspect but you get used to it pretty quickly.

“Once you’re under the lights it doesn’t really feel that different, it feels day-ish under the lights."

Planning is well underway for a Thursday night event using the full circuit next year with Supercars keen to evolve and give fans more variety (and entertainment) at a time that's more convenient for many.

Today, the cars are back in daylight as practice begins for this weekend's Red Rooster Sydney SuperSprint.
